Flower Mound cornerback Jarrick Buckhanan

Flower Mound senior cornerback Jarrick Buckhanan entered the 2026 season with experience already on his side.

The Class of 2027 defensive back has been starting since his sophomore season and is now a three year varsity letterman. In Flower Mound’s season opening 28 to 24 victory over McKinney Boyd, that experience showed up when the Jaguars needed it.

Buckhanan finished the night with five tackles and a blocked field goal, providing an important special teams play in a game ultimately decided by four points.

At 5 foot 10 and 160 pounds, Buckhanan has developed into a versatile corner capable of contributing in several different coverage situations. He can line up in press coverage, play with cushion from off coverage and stay connected in man situations.

One of the more noticeable parts of his game is his physicality.

Buckhanan is an explosive tackler who does not play the cornerback position cautiously. His film includes several violent finishes in space, and he has shown a willingness to support the run and attack ball carriers when the opportunity presents itself.

He also displays natural ability when the football is in the air. Buckhanan tracks the deep ball well and has the speed and body control necessary to stay competitive vertically.

His offseason was centered around gaining weight, returning to full health and developing a deeper understanding of the game. Buckhanan also described part of that process as finding his reason why.

That development has included work with Coach B and DUB Athletic at The Iron Den in Flower Mound, where Buckhanan has continued developing his speed, strength and overall athletic ability.

At Flower Mound, he plays under head coach Brian Basil and defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Juan Thrasher, giving him experienced voices within the Jaguars program as he prepares for his final high school season.

Buckhanan currently has opportunities and interest connected to Arizona Christian University, Lyon College, Hendrix College and Millsaps College.

For an experienced senior defensive back, Week 1 was an encouraging start.

Five tackles. A blocked kick. A victory.

Buckhanan did not need an interception or an oversized stat line to influence the game. His impact showed up when Flower Mound needed a play, and that will be worth watching as his senior season continues.
