Some athletes play fast. Derrick “DJ” Martin plays with purpose. Every stride, every cut, every carry reflects the work he’s put in long before kickoff. The Lewisville High School (TX) standout isn’t just another talented skill player — he’s a competitor built for the big moments.

The class of 2027 junior already holds 26 Division I offers , including recent interest from USF, Stanford, and Montana . Ranked No. 87 overall in Texas and No. 86 among wide receivers per Rivals, Martin has proven he belongs among the state’s most complete young playmakers.

Through the 2025 season , Martin has totaled 194 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 29 carries , along with 166 receiving yards and 2 TDs on 18 receptions . His latest performance against Coppell captured exactly what makes him special — 5 carries for 23 yards, 6 receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown , plus a kick return touchdown late In the fourth quarter.

That return looked effortless — but it was years in the making. The son of former NFL player Derrick Martin Sr. , DJ carries the kind of pedigree that shows in every rep. He’s explosive yet composed, running a 4.37 and showing rare core stability and balance. He’s not just elusive — he’s powerful, a back who falls forward and fights through contact while still being dynamic enough to line up as a receiver and create mismatches downfield.

But what makes Martin different can’t be measured in stats. It’s the respect he commands, the humility he shows, and the consistency in how he works. You can see it in how he competes — serious, focused, and locked in from start to finish. His 3.8 GPA and background in track reflect the same discipline he brings to football: attention to detail, commitment, and pride in doing things the right way.

Those who’ve been around him know — DJ isn’t chasing moments; he’s building habits. From training with his father to working with private coaches, his approach is all business. When the lights are brightest, he doesn’t flinch. That’s what makes him a name to trust on any down, any drive, any game.

For Lewisville, Martin represents more than highlight plays. He’s a tone-setter — a young man writing his own story while carrying forward the standard of the name on his jersey. The more you watch, the more you realize he’s not just next up — he’s already here.
