When Carter Zingelmann takes the field, Coppell’s offense moves with rhythm and control. The 6’5”, 220-pound sophomore quarterback has given the Cowboys a steady presence under center—someone who can make smart reads, extend plays, and finish drives.
Against Lewisville on October 17 , Zingelmann totaled 219 yards and three touchdowns , leading Coppell to its third straight win over the Farmers. The victory pushed Coppell to 5–1 on the season and 3–1 in district play , keeping them firmly in the playoff picture.
Zingelmann’s game is built on poise and athleticism. He’s a strong runner with long strides who knows how to finish runs and absorb contact. When he pulls the ball down, he’s not looking to escape—he’s looking to score. His ability to create with his legs has become a central piece of Coppell’s offense.
Through six games, he’s rushed 73 times for 548 yards and 11 touchdowns , while completing 68 of 88 passes for 858 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions . That’s 1,406 total yards and 17 touchdowns with just four turnovers —numbers that show how efficient this offense has become with him at the helm.
Coppell’s system doesn’t rely on heavy passing volume, but when called upon, Zingelmann delivers the ball where it needs to be. The offense is built around balance, and he’s made the most of every opportunity through the air. Combined with his ability to run through or around defenders, he makes it difficult for defenses to find an answer.
According to 247Sports , Zingelmann is a three-star prospect , ranked as the No. 15 quarterback in Texas and No. 134 nationally in the Class of 2028. That ranking continues to rise as his production and leadership grow week by week.
Beyond football, Zingelmann is a standout in track and field. Back in April, he placed first in the district finals of the 400 meters —running for a well-known Coppell track and field program at 220 pounds . Impressive that a QB opts in to be a dual-sport athlete and choose track, especially at his size, and it speaks to his natural athleticism and work ethic. Competing and excelling in both sports adds another layer to what makes him one of the most unique young athletes in the state.
Colleges are starting to take notice. Baylor, UTSA, Houston, North Texas, and Midwestern State have already extended offers. For a Class of 2028 quarterback, that list is expected to grow. His combination of physical tools and control of the offense makes him one of the more intriguing young prospects in the state.
Off the field, Zingelmann’s approach reflects the same consistency he shows on Friday nights. He maintains a 4.87 GPA and keeps faith at the center of his life, something he talks about often across his social media platforms. That maturity, both mentally and spiritually, continues to set him apart.
As Coppell looks ahead to the second half of the season, Zingelmann’s command will be key. He’s efficient, tough, and calm when it matters most—qualities that have helped turn a young quarterback into a reliable leader for one of the most complete teams in North Texas.
